of uncle’s Wee chicken rice in SG

chicken rice is one of those singaporean food i miss while i am away in Manila. although i can get Wee Nam Kee Chicken rice in Manila, but i still feel the chicken rice in Manila is very customize to their local taste.

so we decided to drop by at Uncle’s wee restaurant @ Novena for dinner on Sunday! this time we had steam chicken, stirred fried vege with garlic, dumpling soup, fried handmade toufu. very heavy meal but very yummlious.

herbal tea like luo han guo is a must if u go to Uncle’s Wee chicken rice. is really good!

each grain of the rice is covered with chicken stock. yumz

the steam chicken is well cooked. a tip from me, if you want to know if the chicken rice is gd, go for steam chicken. it is easy to cook roast chicken but it is very difficult to cook steam chicken. you really need to know the timing well and manage the temperature of the water u use to boil the chicken. everything must be right in order to have a yummy chicken. too long, too hot, it will make the chicken meat taste very tough and dry.

veges..i love veges. like wise same for veges, if you cook the vege too long, the vege will turn yellow..

very generous with the fillings in the dumpling. each dumpling is stuffed with meat and prawn! they are served together with the chicken stock! u can ask for more soup but need to pay for the dumplings. haha

crispy toufu. one of their specialty. the toufu remains soft even after deep fried.

thats all for sunday’s dinner. All pictures are taken using PEN

Chicken Mushroom Rice – based on Mummy’s recipe..

i think i m talented lol..cos i only taste and i can cook the same dish out lol…and it taste exactly the same..

very Simple to cook too…

1. Marinate the chicken with oyster sauce, chinese cooking wine, soya sauce, sesame oil. ( i left it over night cos i just want to cook it after i come home from work)
2. stir fry the ginger (sliced), garlic ( whole but peeled) using sesame oil ( little).  put in the mushroom ( the water u used to soak the mushroom keep for later use). next put in the rice
3.  pour the marinated sauce from the chicken into the rice and mix well
4. pour everything to the rice cooker and add in the mushroom water ( u must remove the residue lo..)
5. add soya sauce to ensure that the rice have some taste after is cooked. so u just add until u feel is the right amount
6. put in the chicken and cook.

tips for softening the dried mushrooms –  simply boil it and it will be soften..=)

Cabbage soup…this is even more simple to cook…

1. stir fry the ikan billis
2. add in the cabbage and some chicken stock
3. add some soya sauce for tasting..
4. bring to boil and finish….

same taste as what mama cook lol…

of chicken all the way in Manila

well, here i m, Miss nua. all the way. laze around in the hotel room. only go out for breakfast and lunch..even tabao dinner bk so i don’t need to go out. ensure that the room is full of supply of water, food lol. cos i decide to nua until tonight. watching TV, playing my jigsaw puzzle.

yes..watch TV, i m watching both the internet n the cable tv in the room lor.

anyway, i had been having chicken meals all the way. yesterday is hainanese chicken rice. probably i miss singapore food too much? or i miss home cook food..i want to eat something singaporean style..so i bought chicken rice. the taste? not quite the same. their rice is more..healthy? i don’t see the shinny oily rice lor. lol. the chicken rice cost me 120 php ( can’t rem the exact price but is round there). cheap right?

i really love the ginger sauce..i finish the whole packet of rice..lol.

and today, i have the most sinful food – KFC. someone told me KFC taste different in Manila and much better than Singapore. so i decided to give it a try too. so i ordered 2 piece chicken meal for lunch n 1 burger for dinner lor. lol. well, the taste is pretty much the same except they give u rice for the chicken meal. also, they give me the flexibility of have 2 diff type of chicken in 1 box. 1 spicy and the other original so i get to taste 2 at one shot. taste? pretty much the same la. and it is very cheap for all it cost me only 168 php. which means my total meal today is less than 200 php. lol. i also replenish my yakult supply and bought some mineral water + washing powder + a container to store the powder lol. i m still contemplating if i should send my clothes for laundry or wash it myself when i get my apartment..hmmm. i send the first batch there..70 php per pieces…

my dinner….

well, now is 5:24pm. i m so proud that i almost pass my first wk in Manila. the people here are very nice and i m trying to learn their native language…hehe..

of a little flavor of Singapore in a foreign country…

well, i recalled uncle mention to me that uncle wee’s chicken rice expanded to Manila many months back during one of the dinner session. In case you wonder what is Uncle wee’s chicken rice? it is actually Wee Nam kee Chicken rice. it is located opp the church (catholic) along the shop houses at Novena. Very famous i suppose.

This is the first time i actually know the person who venture their eatery business overseas and i get to try their food there. the menu is almost the same minus some of other signature dishes in Singapore. Friends who know me will know that Chicken rice is my favorite food ( ya..fattening tio bo? i only take it once in a blue moon now..). and so i am very particular on how the chicken is cooked. So far, Uncle Wee’s chicken is the best! and they also taste the same in Manila. =)

the restaurant is situated near pennisular hotel in Makati. very near ayayala triangle ( not sure the correct spelling of the place).

the menu has a biography of Uncle Wee haha.

it make me so proud to be a Singaporean there haha..see -> Singapore is the first word you read in the biography of Uncle Wee..lol.
actually, there are also others like toastbox, breaktalk, Mei Zheng xiang in Manila but I only know the boss of Wee Nam Kee lor..haha..so this makes it more special la.
well, so if i am in manila, i wont miss my favorite food in Singapore now. cos i got Uncle Wee’s chicken rice lolx.
